Savour your Summer with these Experiences in the GTA

It’s hard to believe that August is already here, and more than any other month this is the one you want to make last forever. Now that Ontario has entered Stage 3 of reopening, there’s even more to experience before Autumn settles in. We’ve taken the time to round up some of the summer experiences throughout the GTA that we’re most looking forward to this month and will be trying to fit in before September comes to call. We’re calling it the “summer cram” – we hope you come along with us to make this August one to remember.

Attend Fleurs de Villes Part Deux

Last year Fleurs de Villes brought impressive floral creations to Bloor-Yorkville, which was a bright spot amidst the first summer of the pandemic. That’s why they’re back again to bring the neighbourhood to life with installations throughout the Yorkville area. From August 4-8 follow the floral trail that starts right here at Manulife Centre at our main entrance by following the online map or picking up a printed version at the Guest Services desk on our Concourse Level.  On August 7th be sure to come by to visit the pop-up floral markets throughout Yorkville to bring some of the joy of Fleurs de Villes home with you while also supporting the Breast Cancer Society of Canada and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Don’t forget to share your experience on social using #FdVBloorYorkville and tagging @ManulifeCentre to be featured on our stories.

Bask in Sunflower Fields

Is there anything more iconically August than a field full to bursting of tall, vibrant sunflowers? We don’t think so. That’s why we’ll be booking tickets to visit The Sunflower Farm in Beaverton, Ontario. Not only is a perfect photo opportunity, it’s an amazing experience for the whole family to get outside, experience farm life, and walk among the sunflowers on a sunflower shaped trail. Like how August always seems to slip away before we know it, so does the blooming season of a sunflower. So be sure to book ahead and visit early to see them at their peak.

Experience Unreal City Views

Touted as one of BlogTO’s top 25 Patios in Toronto with Unreal Views, The One Eighty certainly lives up to its name. We can’t think of a better place to reunite with friends or have a special date night to celebrate a return to life that feels a bit more normal. Book ahead and request a patio table or take in the views from inside their stunning modern restaurant. To access The One Eighty take the south elevator from our Main Level.

Van Gogh or Go Home

Speaking of sunflowers, in case you missed it the hit experience of last summer – The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit – is back again for another spectacular showing. Be sure to book tickets in advance for a walk-thru of the exhibit, or add some illumination to your barre or yoga practice by registering for one of their special classes.

Admire Bold and Beautiful Public Art

While the official Yorkville Murals event is not until September 24th – 26th (check here for details about this year’s event in the coming months), the murals can be experienced anytime in Yorkville, as well as at Manulife Centre as of August 9th. We’re very excited to be host to a innovative mural by Delphine Dussoubs (aka @dalkafine) that combines illustration and motion design (you can get a preview here). Her incredible work will be on display in the atrium of our Main Entrance from August 9 through the Fall. Be sure to keep an eye out for more information about the official Yorkville Murals event next month.

Go to the Movies Again

A classic summer pastime – especially on hot days when a few hours in air conditioning is nothing but sweet relief – is going to the movies and this summer we are excited for movie nights and matinées more than ever before. Next time we go to the movies at Cineplex Varsity Cinemas we’re going all out: popcorn, candy, a pop and we might even opt for the VIP experience, and we think you should too. Be sure to note and adhere to Cineplex’s health and safety protocol to help create a safe experience for all theatre-goers.
